Young’s Support of Drug Industry Immunity Law Leaves Thousands without Justice
Justice Bob Young Has Upheld Only Law of its Kind in Nation
LANSING – Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bob Young supports major drug and insurance companies who donate to his campaigns over victims in Michigan. The former insurance company lawyer upheld Michigan’s drug industry immunity law, which allows drug companies to avoid accountability when their products harm or kill people.
Michigan is the only state in the nation to have such a law. The Michigan Supreme Court had the opportunity to strike down the law eight years ago this week, but Young and his colleagues refused to do so.
“Bob Young has been part of the denial of justice to thousands of victims of harmful drug company products because of Michigan’s notorious 1996 drug immunity law which he voted to uphold in 2002,” Brewer said. “Young and the Supreme Court could have struck down this law in 2002, but instead sided with the big drug companies who support their election to the Court.”
“Bob Young will continue to support this harmful law and major drug and insurance companies over Michigan victims if he stays on the Court,” Brewer continued. “We must send him a wake up call in November so thousands of Michigan victims can get the justice they deserve.”
